Finding your niche – focus where the competition isn’t.

Whether you’re promoting a new product or a new business, finding your niche is important. The playing field has gotten very crowded and it’s getting more challenging to stand out and be noticed. Here are a few suggestions:
- Think smaller. Although it initially sounds counter-intuitive, you need to narrow your audience. If you’re selling coffee, for example, don’t try to compete directly with Starbucks. Think about getting those customers who would likely go somewhere else if they had an option. What reason(s) might that be? Brainstorm/research and target them.
- Build multiple smaller audiences by utilizing the above tip. That can be multiple personas or multiple platforms or both. In other words, don’t put all your eggs in one basket.
- Be creative . Don’t do what the masses are doing. In order to stand out and be memorable, you need to do something to set yourself and your product or service apart. Explore and enjoy the process.
- Be persistent. If at first you’re not getting the results you’d hoped for, give it more time. Like starting a fire, sometimes is takes a little while for the flames to really get going.
Lastly, I encourage you to be flexible. Change is inevitable and being able to be nimble is essential. If the pandemic taught us nothing else, it was that the ability to pivot and adapt is paramount to success! Oh, yeah. And keep it fun if you can.
